A Non Profit Organization
SMASH was founded in Las Vegas in 2005 by former Vegas Professional Dancer, Lisa Valdes Romero. SMASH catered to children dance programs, sponsored many community events, raised money for Nevada Homeless youth, provided cultural programs like Salsa and Bellydance for kids, was a safe positive outlet for the local Urban Youth, and gave dance Scholarships to kids in need. In 2009, Lisa & her military husband moved to San Antonio bringing SMASH with them to Texas following the same formula but adding Adult Fitness classes. In 2014 the NuSMASH Project was formed and became 501(c)(3) in 2015. NuSMASH Project mission is to provide positive active programs for kids and adults in Las Vegas and San Antonio that will help lead our communities to live happier healthier lives.
Our VisionTo Provide motivating programs and instructor training in the Creative Arts Industry for Youth and Adults. We will give children affordable or no cost classes in the fine arts. As Humanists, we will empower our students with the tools to live their very best lives and reduce obesity, diabetes, the high rate of teen pregnancies and gang related crimes in the community.
Our GoalTo provide a positive active outlet for Youth and Adults in the Greater San Antonio and Las Vegas Community in the Cultural Arts of Dance, Fitness, Music, and Wellness. These programs will help raise self-esteem and confidence leading to happy healthy lives while learning new skills. We will use the success of this project as a blueprint for similar programs across the country.
Kids ClassesProvides a positive active outlet for children to learn to dance in a non-intimidating safe environment that helps raise their self esteem and confidence. We keep our costs low and affordable for parents through the NuSMASH Project Non-Profit 501(c)(3) organization. The children work towards performing in 2 small showcases a year where all proceeds are given back to the community helping the less fortunate. Classes offered are Creative Dance, Hip Hop and Breakdancing
Adult ClassesProvides a positive active outlet for Adults who are in need of inspiration and determination to reach their ultimate goals. These are low cost and/or donation only classes and workshops. Proceeds from these programs are given back to the less fortunate so you are dancing and getting fit for great causes.
Instructor Training ProgramProvides Free Dance/ Fitness/Instructor Training Programs for our community. Our 6 week Instructor Training Program helps our community who are interested in getting involved with the dance fitness industry, choose which discipline fits them most and guide them in the right direction to how to get started. This program helps motivate individuals to follow their passion for dance and fitness and possibly make a hobby or career out of it. Those who completes training can continue to be part of our Teach for a Cause program to gain more experience as an instructor.
Teach for a Cause Provides instructors who complete the 6 week program an opportunity to teach one of our free or any donation dance fitness classes for the community which helps raise funds for our causes and give the instructor more experience in teaching during the process. NuSMASH Project also sends our trained instructors to teach dance fitness classes at local shelters and rehabilitation centers for women and children.
Volunteer NuSMASH Project is always in need for Volunteers. We have several areas we need volunteers, including Administrative, Front Desk, Customer Service work, “Write For A Cause” Volunteer Program where we teach you how to market our free or any donation classes to the community through social media, or If you are already a certified instructor, join our “Teach For A Cause” Volunteer Program and teach for local shelters and rehabilitation centers.
